

Russ Nolan is a Professional Photographer, he was
trained at the Defence School of
Photography. The course he undertook takes about 8 months, which is the equivalent
of the 2 years college course compressed down. The course teaches all photography
skills from exposure, composition, lighting, studio setup, camera handling, and digital
photography.
He originally didn’t join the Army as a photographer; it is a trade that you have to transfer into upon successful selection, on completion of the professional photographers course at the Defence School of Photography. In his time in the he has travelled and worked in various different countries like; the UK, USA, Germany, France, Canada, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Russ Nolan's has spent a long time as a photographer for the Army’s media operations. Here he covers various different stories and events from the Army Boxing Finals to troops building camps in Afghanistan. Russ Nolan has also operated as part of a Combat Camera Team in Iraq. Where his jobs ranged from photographing troops doing their day to jobs to visiting dignitaries.
In 2007 he won the title of Army Photographer of the Year for his images take he had taken that year.
Russ Nolan has also had the opportunity and exclusive access to many UK and US dignitaries including Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair MP, Current Prime Minister Gordon Brown MP, plus the leader of the opposition David Cameron MP from the US he has photographed Senator John Kerry and presidential candidate John McClane.
Russ Nolan has also had the opportunity to photograph many members of the Royal family, including Heir to the throne the Prince of Wales, the Queens sister the Princess Royal and Prince William.
